Match Highlights

  • Toft 1st reduced Hyde to (91-8) Brian Coutts (4-28) before knocking them off for one wicket, Chris Sheldon (45*) and Simon Montgomery (35) in the George Newton Trophy.
  • Richard Hardstaff made a notable debut in the National Club KO scoring 136* v. Chester BH (197-10). However , ex Cheshire veteran wicket keeper Tommy Hodson produced three remarkable stumping’s enabling Toft (217-6) to win by 20 runs.
  • Over 40’s tied with Cheadle (130-5) Toft (130-3)
  • In the 2nd round of the Cheshire Cup Woodley were set a target of 205-6 by Toft, in reply the Woodley openers like so many others before them, were completely bewildered by the opening spin attack of Ron Locke and Paul Bertenshaw who reduced them to 17-3 from their first 16 overs, finishing all out for 85.
  • Toft routed Stalybridge for 52 the lowest League score of the season, going on to win by 10 wickets, John Bacon taking 5-14 in 16 fiery overs and Ron Locke chipping in with 4-28
  • In the Winnington Park U13’s Festival Toft U13’s lost to Grappenhall U13’s
  • Toft 2nd (202-5) Paul Murphy (52) and Brian Coutts (42*) beat Warrington (202-9) by losing fewer wickets in the quarter-finals of the 2nd XI KO
  • Toft 2nd (138-10) Mike Clawson (58) lost their semi-final to Grappenhall (139-7) Brian Coutts (4-34)
  • Toft won the Cheshire BS Cup for the second time in three seasons when they beat the holders Grappenhall by 98 runs in a surprisingly one-sided game at Booth Park. Toft (200-6) Chris Sheldon (65) MoM v. Grappenhall (102-7), Brian taking 22 runs off the last over, giving him 32 from just 13 balls.
  • In the game against Grappenhall (4th Sept) Ron Locke took 5-99 which took him to 1002 wickets in the league in 17 seasons
